I Am Legend (2003?)

Plot:  A remake of the Charlton Heston starring film Omega Man about the last human alive on Earth.

Languishing for years in development hell, I Am Legend seems to have finally broken through. Arnold Schwarzenegger has long been attached to star in the post apocalyptic thriller but has now decided to settle for merely producing. Warner Bros. is now actively courting Will Smith (MIB, Ali) for the lead role and Michael Bay (Pearl Harbor, Armaggedon) for the director's chair.

The film was headed to production in 1997 but came to a screeching halt over it's $125 million budget. It is based on the Richard Matheson novel that tells the tale of the last man alive after a biological disaster that has converted much of humanity into vampire-like mutants. The film would follow his struggle against those mutants desperate to wipe out the last survivor. Apparently there is a new draft of the script which reduces the cost of production.
