75th Academy Award Nominations

11 February, 2003

To pretty much no one's surprise, Chicago was the big attention getter from the Academy, garnering 13 nominations. Gangs of New York was next with an impressive ten nominations. The Hours followed with nine nominations and then The Pianist with seven. Frida, The Two Towers and Road to Perdition each received six. As always, the Academy tossed a few curveballs. Meryl Streep didn't get a best actress nod while Salma Hayek did. Two foreign films received nominations for best original screenplay. Roman Polanski will either need to settle his legal troubles or get a really good webcam for his acceptance speech should he win best director.
