DVD Releases for 23 January, 2001

What's up people? Magnus here, and I have to apologize for missing the last couple weeks of dvd releases. As you may or may not know, I was relocating to L.A. and it was hard enough to get my Farscape reviews in on time. In anycase, another tuesday is upon us, and another batch of new dvds. So let's see what we got here.

  1. X-Files: Fight the Future: Special Edition -- about time this got the SE treatment. That first disc was a joke, and anyone who bought it assuming it was loaded (always a mistake -- research first!) was probably swearing at their television sets when they saw how bare bones it was. Anyway, X-Philes need this, all others can save their money.
  2. Me, Myself & Irene: Special Edition -- the jury's still out on this one. Reasonably successful B.O., but still seen by most as inferior to the Farrelly's past efforts. Personally, I always find Jim Carrey amusing, although it's all been downhill since Dumb & Dumber. I mean, how can you possibly top "do you wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?"
  3. Bait: Special Edition -- Is this a classic case of a mediocre movie being a good dvd? I seriously doubt it. Unless your are a die-hard Jamie Foxx, or even a David Morse fan, pass on this one. If you don't believe me, click here.
  4. Last of the Mohicans: Special Edition -- like X-Files, finally getting the disc it deserves. Before he was widely recognized as a top-tier director, this was one of Michael Mann's (Heat, The Insider) first directing gigs. But how come Daniel Day-Lewis only acts in a movie like every 4 years?
  5. Cecil B. Demented: Special Edition -- a lot of SE's this week, huh? Anyway, this is a John Waters movie. If you know who that is, you'll probably buy this. And if you don't, you should probably stay very far away. (For a sample of Waters 'best' work, rent Pink Flamingos...but don't flame me afterwards!)

Also:
-- Disney's The Kid -- not to be confused with the equally horrific The Kid...
-- Blur: Best of Blur -- Oasis' big rival overseas. Never really found an american audience though except the "woohoo!" song.
-- Britney Spears: Britney in Hawaii, Live & More -- Britney is hot. Uh Huh Huh Huh...

However, my Pick of the Week:
MVP: Most Valuable Primate: Special Edition -- oh god, the pain...the pain...for those who can't possibly hold out any longer for the next Air Bud installment...

Okay then. Until next tuesday, or

Til All Are One --
